Why Set Anything Before You Start?

Because the decision is a different one later. A ceiling chosen calmly at sign-up is the same ceiling chosen at 2am after a run of losses, except that only one of those two versions of you is in a position to choose well. That is the whole argument, and it is a good one.

What Can You Switch On?

• Deposit limit — a ceiling per day, week or month. Lowering it takes effect immediately; raising it does not.
• Loss limit — a cap on what you can be down over a period, regardless of how much has gone in.
• Session reminder — a prompt telling you how long you have been playing. Time is the first thing anybody loses track of.
• Cool-off — a short lock when you want a pause rather than an ending.
• Self-exclusion — a longer closure that will not be lifted on request inside the period you set.

All of them are account settings. None requires asking permission.

When the money going in was meant for something else. When a loss is something to be won back rather than something that happened. When it is being hidden. When it is how a bad day gets managed.

None of that makes anyone unusual, and none of it is a character judgement. It does mean the controls above should go on now rather than be thought about.

Who Cannot Hold an Account?

Anyone under 21. We verify age and we close underage accounts, returning the balance. If a device is shared, lock it and do not let the browser remember the credentials — that is the usual route by which an account ends up in the wrong hands.

Where Can You Get Support?

If gambling is doing harm, to you or to someone close to you, it is worth raising with a doctor or a counselling service early rather than late. Set a self-exclusion while you do, so the decision is made once instead of every evening.
